Overview
When a customer set out to launch a premium line of high-performance titanium suppressors, they faced a dual challenge: finding a vendor to meet unique engineering requirements and a narrow market window driven by legislative shifts. To bring their design to life, the customer sought a manufacturer skilled in both CNC machining and laser welding titanium. The core task involved the precision assembly of front caps, baffle stacks, and blast chambers – a process requiring near-perfect bore concentricity and validated deep-penetration welds.
Phoenix Laser provided a comprehensive, multi-process solution, consolidating CNC Machining, Wire EDM, Laser Welding, and Laser Engraving under one roof. This integrated approach eliminated the logistical and quality-control risks associated with moving components between multiple vendors. The result was a 100% success rate on the trial production run, allowing our customer to hit the market on schedule with a superior product “built for the backcountry.”

The Challenge: Precision under Pressure
The customer needed a manufacturing partner who could handle the complexity of its suppressor line, which utilized titanium for its optimal balance of strength and weight. Producing suppressors also requires knowledge of NFA laws, marking variances, and ATF regulations. To maintain a competitive edge, the client desired rapid production to bring this product to market as the $0 tax stamp took effect.
Their suppressor design presented unique challenges in both machining and laser welding. The welds required much higher penetration than industry standards (.070”), which requires a high-power laser, weld fixturing, and a custom argon delivery system for shielding. Additionally, machining components while maintaining concentricity and low runout is critical to reducing tolerance stacking.
Titanium’s material properties (low thermal conductivity, tendency to work-harden, and movement under heat) make maintaining tight tolerances and achieving a uniform surface finish difficult, risking accuracy issues and baffle strikes. Most suppliers can hit nominal tolerances, but only a specialized partner can maintain concentricity under titanium’s heat expansion, tool pressure and distortion tendencies.
The Solution: Expertise & Consolidation
The customer chose Phoenix Laser because of our proven reputation for working with exotic alloys like titanium and our unique ability to combine multiple high-precision services under one roof. This minimizes logistical risk, reduces handling, and ensures complete quality control throughout the entire build process.
Our expertise allows us to control specific parameters in early stages that typically influence downstream processes. As a 07 FFL / Class 2 SOT company, we easily manage the transfer and manufacture of NFA components.
Results & Benefits
The integration of all processes at Phoenix Laser delivered significant, tangible value to our customer. By managing the entire production flow—from raw material to finished, marked, and inspected assembly—we eliminated logistical challenges and delivered a 100% success rate. This comprehensive approach provided a scalable manufacturing path, allowing the customer to meet a critical market window and reinforce their status as a premium outdoor brand.
- Superior Manufacturing: Verified via CMM, the final suppressors maintained perfect bore alignment, ensuring maximum accuracy and high-pressure durability for the end-user.
- Efficiency Gain: By consolidating all high-precision manufacturing steps (CNC, EDM, Laser Welding, and Engraving) with a single vendor, our customer realized a significant decrease in total production time and dramatically simplified their supply chain logistics.
- Product Performance: The precision achieved, specifically the bore concentricity and the high-integrity laser welds, ensures the suppressor will achieve maximum accuracy and successfully pass high-pressure endurance testing, securing its reliability for end-users.
